Grinder brush for coffee grinderGround coffee stays in the grind chute and goes stale there. A quick pass with the brush after each grind is enough.

The diameter of the grinding burrs determines how many revolutions are needed for the same amount of coffee.
Conical burrs run at lower rotational speed and therefore stay cooler.
You decide how long to grind.
A small hopper means more frequent refilling, but the bean in the basket is always fresh from the bag.

The beans sit in the hopper and are ground on demand.
The numbers from the data sheet, in the order that matters. A faster grinder does not grind better, it only grinds more.
The larger the burrs, the fewer revolutions are needed for the same amount of coffee. The grounds heat up less, and heat in the ground coffee costs aroma. Installed are conical Gold Energy.
These are 25 square centimeters of counter that are permanently occupied. At 16 cm height you need space above it for refilling.

The beans sit in the hopper and are ground on demand. This is the faster way in everyday life, especially if the same coffee is used all the time. A full hopper, however, means that the beans at the bottom are exposed to the air for longer.
The diameter of the grinding burrs determines how many revolutions are needed for the same amount of coffee. Larger burrs need fewer revolutions, the grind warms up less, and heat in the grind reduces aroma.
Conical burrs run at lower rotational speed and therefore stay cooler. They need less vertical space and are less tolerant of individual hard beans.
You decide how long to grind. The most reliable way is with a scale because otherwise the amount shifts with grind size and bean.
A small hopper means more frequent refilling, but the bean in the basket is always fresh from the bag. For single shots this gives the better result.

The Eureka Baby coffee grinder is suitable for filter coffee. The stepless grind setting allows the grinder to be adjusted to the desired level for filter coffee. The steel conical burr ensures consistent grinding results, which is important when preparing filter coffee.
The Baby has a 38 mm conical burr made of hardened steel. It is not designed for repetitive espresso shots in a café setting; it is a manual on-demand grinder without motorized drive. Per shot you crank about 18 g in 30-40 seconds. For home barista setups, camping or travel espresso this works well. For a workflow with 20+ shots daily I would choose the Mignon Specialità (50 mm flat burrs, motorized) or the Atlas 65 (65 mm burrs, Grind-by-Time). The Baby is for enjoyment without electricity, not for speed.
The Baby uses a 38 mm conical burr made of hardened steel with stepless micro-adjustment. For specialty espresso in the sub-200 µm range this is limited: cone geometries of this size tend to produce greater particle spread with very hard, dense beans (e.g. washed Ethiopians) than precise flat-burr systems. With lighter roasts you notice this in less clear extractions. For on-the-go shots with medium to darker roasts it works solidly; for consistent competition-level results you need a larger burr or a flat burr starting at 55 mm.
Eureka does not provide specific wear-life figures for the Baby. With hardened steel in a 38-mm conical shape you can expect roughly 200–300 kg throughput before a noticeable decline in performance at a daily 20–30 g and changing varieties (including dense Kenyas), significantly less than the Diamond-Inside coatings of the Mignon range, which promise unlimited wear life. Natural processing with higher sugar content sticks more and requires more frequent blowing-out. Great for camping trips; for daily home-barista use with a specialty rotation you will taste differences after 1–2 years. The burr is removable, cleaning is quick.
No, the Baby is a manual grinder without a motor, unsuitable for peak times. For 20–30 espressos between 8 and 10 a.m. you need an electric on-demand grinder with at least 2.5 g/s throughput. The Baby grinds manually about 15–20 g in 60–90 seconds; that only works for single portions outside the peaks. For your setup the Mignon Single Dose Pro or Atlas 65 would fit; both deliver consistent grind output even at high volume.
In hand grinders the main wear parts are the conical burr and the crank mechanism. Eureka names REPA as Global Master Distributor for spare parts from June 2025, but the Baby is not on the extended motor warranty list, since it has no motor. The availability of burrs and small parts for hand grinders is less documented than for the electric Mignon or Atlas models. Ask us specifically which parts we have in stock for the Baby.
Yes, the Eureka Baby grinds fine enough for espresso. The conical burr made of hardened steel produces a uniform powder. You set the grind size steplessly, from espresso to French press. Ideal for trying things out before you invest in an electric grinder. Grinding takes about 30–60 seconds for an espresso, depending on the bean. For filter coffee it is faster.
The burr can be disassembled easily, without tools. After each week of use: unscrew the top part and brush out residues. When changing beans, disassemble completely and wipe with a dry cloth. Do not use water on the burrs. The Eureka Baby is built so that you can get at it quickly; cleaning takes about 5 minutes.
